People paid heed to a fascinating rumour that surfaced earlier this year that the new iPad Pro for 2022 would come in a massive 14.1-inch configuration, in part because a well-known leaker had said the same thing a full year earlier.
However, not only is this “iPad Pro Ultra” (as we’ve come to refer to it) a complete non-show, but there haven’t even been any iPad Pros, as many people expected. We’re about to cross the ribbon that marks the end of 2022. Or even the new iPad (2022), which was almost a foregone conclusion considering that Apple updates its entry-level line every single year.
These tablets were absent from the iPhone 14 announcement, and while there were rumours that an iPad launch event would follow in October, more recent reports indicate that this will be a more modest event. It may not even be a launch event; a well-known Apple leaker claims the corporation may simply issue a press release to promote new items.
therefore no iPad Pro Ultra?
Apple wouldn’t make the announcement of a new, enormous iPad Pro via a press release. Since the smaller iPad Pro model’s size changed from 9.7 to 11 inches, this Ultra-fication would be the biggest alteration to the iPad Pro line since that shift. It’s highly unlikely that Apple would make this announcement through a glorified email.
No, it doesn’t seem realistic that a 14-inch iPad will debut this year.
This isn’t entirely unexpected, given that the leaker who disclosed the 2022 release date has a rather sketchy track record and that other, more trustworthy sources didn’t actually point to any certain year.
But many people believed Apple could match the 14.6-inch display of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, which was released at the beginning of the year.
That’s not to say that we won’t see an iPad with a huge screen; it just means that it most likely won’t be available before the year is up.
Large iPad; little violin
We don’t think the announcement that a massive iPad Pro won’t be released this year will shock many people.
Three new Apple Watch models have been released in total, which is the most in one year, and four new smartphones have also been released, including the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which is the biggest update Apple has made to a smartphone in years.
In addition, we already saw the iPad Air 2022, the iPhone SE 2022, and many more new machines earlier in the year. Being an Apple lover this year has been incredibly hectic.
The one area where the business has struggled is also the area where it has the greatest advantage over its competitors: tablets. In comparison to past years, we have only seen one iPad, which is not very many. However, the October press release will probably change that.
Apple probably lacks the factory capacity, and its customers probably lack the money, to produce an even larger and more expensive iPad Pro Ultra in such a busy year. We can put off that device and the resulting reorganisation of our ranking of the best tablets for another year.
