As planned, Xiaomi unveiled its third-generation foldable smartphone today in China. The product, which is a fourth horizontal foldable phone that unfolds into a tablet, is officially known as the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3.
When folded, it is presently the thinnest foldable phone in the world, breaking the previous record-holder, the Honour Magic V2. The camera system is Leica-tuned, just as the company’s standard flagship smartphones.

Specifications for the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3
With a few modifications, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 keeps the boxy design of the Mix Fold 2. Since there are now four lenses instead of three, the rectangular camera island is bigger.
When folded, the device measures 10.96m and is only 5.26mm thin when unfurled. It has a redesigned waterdrop hinge with a higher folding resistance than its predecessor—over 500,000 folds. The hinge also enables the display to remain stationary (Hover mode) at angles ranging from 45° to 135°.
The primary foldable screen has an 8.03-inch diagonal dimension, a 2K resolution, and UTG security. The outside 21:9 FHD+ display, which is 6.56 inches in size and covered by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, is larger.
Both panels are made of E6 material and can handle Dolby Vision and refresh rates up to 120Hz. They have a 2600 nit maximum peak brightness capability. Even they have a 1300 nit global brightness rating.
Dual stereo speakers are connected to these two screens. The phone’s operating system is MIUI 14 Fold, which is based on Android 13. The top 200 Chinese apps, according to Xiaomi, are fully optimised for this device.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 overclocked chipset, along with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage, powers the smartphone. A 4,800mAh battery powers it, and 67W conventional charging and 50W wireless charging are both supported.
Not to mention, the smartphone sports two 20MP front-facing cameras for the external and internal displays, as well as a Leica-tuned quad-camera system. A 50MP Sony IMX800 primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP 3.2x telephoto camera, and a 10MP 5x periscope camera make up the main camera system. All four cameras have OIS, with the exception of the ultra-wide camera.

Both glass and dragon scale fibre versions are available. The former is offered in both black and gold.
The latter makes use of a stronger composite aircraft fibre material that is 36 times stronger than glass. But the price of each variant is the same.
In China, pre-orders for the foldable smartphone are being taken. It will start to be sold on August 16.
