India’s e-commerce website Meesho reported in its ‘Trust Assurance Report’ that in the previous six months it has eliminated roughly 42 lakh ads for unauthorised and illegal products as well as 10 lakh listings for restricted products.

Utkrishta Kumar, CXO of Business at Meesho, addressed the growing issue of counterfeit goods on e-commerce platforms and said, “By continuously investing in technology, improving quality checks, and forming strategic brand partnerships, we have significantly improved our ability to detect counterfeit products and protect our users from potential harm.”

According to the study, the e-commerce platform identified and prevented over 12,000 accounts belonging to bad actors from using it.

Natural language models were used by Meesho, according to Sanjeev Barnwal, the company’s founder and chief technology officer, to identify these malicious users on the network.

To efficiently spot fake goods and dishonest vendors, we continuously strengthen our quality checks using cutting-edge computer vision and natural language understanding tools. Additionally, we have a committed quality and compliance team that regularly double-checks automatic signals, allowing us to fight fraud and fostering user trust, according to Barnwal.

Meesho stated that according to the e-commerce company’s “Trust Assurance Report,” 1,800 brands had been recognised as being at high risk for infringement and counterfeiting.

The study asserts that since February, platform views for non-compliant items have decreased by 80% and currently account for 0.1% of platform views.

Additionally, Meesho presented ‘Project Suraksha’, a project with several

ways to thwart restricted and counterfeit goods on the e-commerce network. As a result, they have put into place strict verification procedures, taken part in brand alliances, and used analytical models to detect fraud. Meesho has created a “Suraksha List” as part of the same initiative to track out dishonest vendors on the online marketplace.

The company’s chief executive officer, Kumar, further stated, “Our strong focus on customer and seller education fosters a transparent relationship, instilling trust in our platform and making Meesho the preferred destination for authentic and reliable products in India’s competitive e-commerce landscape.”
