BSNL Intends To Launch 5G Services By August 2023 And 4G Services By November 2022

On August 15 of next year, the government-owned telecom provider BSNL will introduce 5G services, according to Union Minister of Communications Ashwini Vaishnaw. At the Indian Mobile Congress 2022, he was speaking.

The minister was questioned about the lack of 4G services offered by BSNL in the Indian telecom market as well as how the public telecom provider plans to make the significant transition to 5G. The shift from 4G to 5G won’t take long, according to him, and BSNL’s 5G service will be provided using a non-standalone architecture. This would enable the telecom to provide 5G services without having to make significant investments in new setups.

Additionally, he discussed bringing 5G services to more than 200 Indian cities in just six months. In addition, he stated that in the following two years, 5G services would be available in 90% of the nation.

According to a report from ETTelecom(opens in new tab), the new BSNL network will be built using technology that was created domestically.

Additionally, BSNL plans to roll out 4G services in the nation by November of this year. At the Indian Mobile Congress, Chairman and Managing Director PK Purwar remarked.

“November should see the start of the proposed 4G network’s first roll out. The [IT] minister has provided us with a precise timeline for BSNL’s entry into the 5G space, which is August 15, 2023. We should be able to stick to the desired timeline, according to PK Purwar, who was quoted by PTI. Additionally, it is said that BSNL is investing in 4G networking hardware that can be upgraded to 5G via OTA upgrades.

The government just authorised a new $1,64,000 billion rejuvenation programme. which will be applied to enhance services and spectrum allocation.

It would be more competitive with industry titans if BSNL had 5G.
The public sector telecom company is inoperable due to the unavailability of 4G services. In terms of subscribers, it used to be at the top of the charts. BSNL will be able to compete with Airtel, Jio, and Vi thanks to 5G services.

With its aggressive pricing and 3G services, BSNL has been in direct competition with private businesses. More subscribers may be attracted, and BSNL 4G and 5G services may even be able to turn around the company’s losing venture.
