The August 2022 security updates from Samsung have started to be released in some parts of Europe. The Galaxy S20, S20, and S22 phones are the first to receive updates. Over the upcoming days and weeks, more markets will get the patch. With regard to timely updates, Samsung still fulfils its commitments.
Although it is only July 29 as of the time of this writing, Samsung has already started distributing the August 2022 security updates.
According to Android Police the update has hit lucky owners of the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy S21, or Galaxy S22 phones in Germany.
Probably soon, similar updates will also be released for other markets.
According to the changelog, there don’t appear to be any new features or improvements in this update. Along with the nebulous claim that “Overall stability of functions improved,” the change primarily aims to increase the phone’s security.
The availability of this OTA update for every Samsung smartphone that is currently supported may take a few weeks, depending on your wireless carrier’s schedule.
If you believe the update is available in your region, you can just tap on the Settings app on your Samsung phone, then select Software update, and finally, tap on the Download and install selection. If the update is available, it should download it quickly.
If not, you can simply wait until your carrier sends a notification to your phone stating the update is ready.
It’s great to see Samsung being proactive with updates, besting even Google from time to time.
Indeed, we would really like to see all manufacturers of Android phones adhere to this as the benchmark.
