Porsche Unveils Latest Generation 911 GT3 Car

According to Sebastian Golz, project manager for the most recent 911 GT3 Car, the goal throughout design and development of the new car based on the 992-shape 911 was to make it “quick for longer.”

The classification within performance windows established by the Balance of Performance rapidly balances out this advantage, so our objective was less about making the Porsche 911 GT3-R even faster, according to Golz.

“For us, the main concern was giving our customers more time to drive the racing car quickly. This requires durability, which is why we gave better drivability a priority.

The normally aspirated flat-six engine from Porsche, which has been expanded from four to 4.2 liters over its predecessor based on the previous-generation 991.2 Porsche 911, is at the heart of the car’s idea.

Due to this, Porsche has been able to improve torque by 4-5 percent in the upper half and about 9 percent at the bottom of the rpm range.

To enhance weight distribution and provide room for a bigger rear diffuser, the engine has been 5.5 degrees front to rear slanted.

Porsche Motorsport hasn’t ruled out undertaking a test race this year, most likely one of the late-season rounds of the Nürburgring Long-distance Series (formerly the VLN), but its competition debut as a homologated car will be at next January’s Daytona 24 Hours IMSA Sportscar Championship season-opener.

A significant aerodynamic step under the car’s nose is also present, and it was made feasible by removing a portion of the front boot structure. Cleaner air can travel to the rear diffuser underneath the car thanks to the updated front-end aerodynamics.

This has led to “more stable and continuous aerodynamics and lower stresses on the rear Tyres,” according to Golz, when combined with a longer wheelbase.

Additionally, Porsche wanted to make the new GT3 10 percent more affordable to operate than the model it replaced.

The new vehicle made its debut on the Porsche test track in Weissbach in July 2021, and it has since clocked up 112 hours of running time, including a trouble-free 30-hour endurance run at the Barcelona circuit.

However, the car’s competition debut as a homologated vehicle will take place at the Daytona 24 Hours IMSA Sportscar Championship season-opener in January.

The vehicle will also qualify for the Le Mans 24 Hours starting in 2024 when the World Endurance Championship and its sister series, the European Le Mans Series, adopt GT3 rules as the foundation of a new class that will replace GTE and be formally dubbed LMGT.

The new vehicle, which goes on show in the paddock at the GT World Challenge Europe round in Spa starting on Saturday, costs €511,000 new. Comparatively, the current 911 GT3-R, which was unveiled ahead of the 2019 season, has a 2022 list price of €459,000.

However, several options that were options on the previous model of the automobile are now standard on the most recent model, including a Tyre-pressure monitoring system.
