Good news for Madhya Pradesh’s private Automobiles owners! The state government has decided that private vehicles would not be subject to tolls. To relieve traffic congestion at toll plazas, the administration led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan decided to exempt private automobiles from paying toll tax.
According to the government, the new decision will be implemented on all new and old roads under the jurisdiction of the State Road Development Corporation.
The decision was made after the Public Works Department surveyed around 200 highways in the state. According to the poll, business vehicles account for roughly 80% of toll revenue, while individual vehicles account for the remaining 20%.
So, despite paying one-fifth of toll plaza collections, private vehicles frequently generate congestion. As a result, in order to reduce traffic congestion caused by private automobiles at toll plazas, the state government decided to exempt them from toll-plaza taxes.
Mr. Neeraj Mandola, Principal Secretary of State Transport, said that the proposal has been sent to the cabinet for approval.
According to sources, the State Road Development Corporation used the Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) approach to build all 200 highways.
In this case, the government leases all 200 roads to a private entity for a set period of time for maintenance and development.
