Case and Equipment
The new MateBook D 16’s case has been totally redesigned by Huawei and now largely resembles the MateBook 16s. The two laptops’ exteriors are nearly identical, with the exception of a little size difference brought on by the varied screen sizes (3:2 for the MateBook 16s and 16:10 for the MateBook D 16). There are no major issues with workmanship or case stability, thus this is unquestionably an improvement over the MateBook D 16.
Additionally, a look inside the case reveals that Huawei utilizes the same mainboard for both smartphones. The MateBook D 16 only receives a single fan and a single heat pipe, although it employs the same processor. Due to the soldering of the WLAN module, the user can only change the M.2 SSD. The new MateBook D 16 is less wide and deeper than its predecessor, but otherwise, both devices are almost the same size.
There is once more symmetry between the connections and their numbers with the larger MateBook 16s, but Huawei avoids paying licensing fees for a Thunderbolt 4 connection, and one of the two USB-A ports on the right side only supports the outdated 2.0 standard.
The newest 6-GHz networks aren’t supported by the Wi-Fi module either, but the Intel AX201 card (Wi-Fi 6) still performs admirably, so there shouldn’t be any issues in practice.
The new 1080p webcam has some intriguing AI features and takes reasonable shots (background filter, object tracking, adjustment of the viewpoint, etc.). In fact, this works great in theory, but when the AI camera is turned on, the picture impression is a little jerkier.
