Xiaomi 12S Ultra Hardware Cost
At the start of this month, Xiaomi officially introduced the 12S Series, which features Xiaomi’s photography flagship of the year, the Xiaomi 12S Ultra (Review) with the most ruthless materials. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 and the first 1-inch large-bottom Sony IMX989 sensor, as well as a partnership with Leica Camera.
From the retail price of the smartphone and the actual cost of materials, the profit margin of cell phone manufacturers may often be calculated.
According to Counterpoint research’s BoM analysis methodology, the 8GB + 256GB memory variant of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra has a hardware cost of around 516 USD (approximately 41,000 Indian rupees).
67 percent of the overall cost is comprised of the processor, display, camera, and memory. Specifically, the processor costs 128, the display costs 89, the camera costs 79, the memory costs 58, and the Cellular RF system costs 24 USD.
It should be noted that the cost listed above is for hardware only, and does not include the cost of design, R&D, warehousing, and logistics, among other expenses. On Xiaomi Mall, the selling pricing for the 8GB+256GB version of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is presently RMB 5,999 (about 71,000 INR).
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra’s hardware alone costs 516 USD, and when other expenses are factored in, the machine’s profit margin appears to be low. Comparatively, the iPhone 12, which is marginally less expensive than the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, has a material cost of approximately $415.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra has an exorbitant hardware cost because of its extensive use of modern components, such as IMX989, Leica lens, Snapdragon 8+, Xiaomi Surge G1 battery management chip, Surge P1 charging chip, etc. Lei Jun has also mentioned that the Leica lens is somewhat pricey.
